The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has launched a coordinated strike targeting two U.S. naval vessels, eight oil tankers, and ten additional infringing craft within the Strait of Hormuz on September 9. The IRGC stated that these actions were a direct response to recent U.S. military operations in the Persian Gulf, specifically attacks on Iranian crude oil tankers.
U.S. Central Command confirmed that five Iranian tankers carrying refined petroleum were destroyed following two attempts by the IRGC to target American warships with ballistic missiles. The IRGC further emphasized that the Strait of Hormuz remains under Iranian jurisdiction and that the additional ten vessels were intercepted due to efforts to navigate through a prohibited and restricted zone in collaboration with U.S.-designated entities.
