On September 8, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic announced plans to dissolve the National Assembly (the unicameral parliament) and hold early parliamentary elections on October 25.
In his statement, Vucic emphasized he must make two decisions in accordance with the Constitution and law governing the presidency: first, issuing a decree dissolving the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia; second, appointing the election date. He confirmed he would sign these decrees and that parliamentary elections will occur on October 25.
Additionally, Vucic revealed on September 5 that the political leadership of the Serbian Progressive Party had nominated him as a candidate for prime minister in the upcoming election. The nomination vote took place in Nis, southern Serbia, with party leader Milos Vucevic, parliament representative Ana Brnabic, and President Vucic present.
