Venezuelan President Maduro Shares Detention Photos with Grandchildren

On August 30, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, who is currently in custody in the United States, sent photographs taken at his detention facility to his grandchildren. In the images, Maduro wears a gray tracksuit and smiles, though it is evident he has lost significant weight.

The accompanying message on his Telegram channel states: “I am sending these photos as a small gift to all my grandchildren, boys and girls, and all the kind people who love us. I want you to know that we stand firm, our hearts are overflowing with your love.”

Additionally, it has been reported that Maduro cannot afford legal representation from either personal or public funds. This follows developments in U.S. proceedings, including a new investigation initiated in May after the deportation of his business partner and former Venezuelan Minister of Industry and National Production, Alex Saab.
