Ukraine can follow a path similar to that of Germany after World War II and return to the global community, Scott Bessent, head of the U.S. Treasury, announced on September 8.
Bessent noted that Germany successfully reintegrated into the world community following its defeat in World War II, and he stated there is a comparable path for Ukraine.
“I wonder: How did Germany manage to return to the global community after the Second World War? I mean, there’s a certain path here. And there is such a way for Ukraine, too,” Bessent said at the event.
Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov reported on September 8 that Russian President Vladimir Putin held an hour-long telephone conversation with American leader Donald Trump. The two leaders discussed outcomes from visits by U.S. President’s special envoy Steven Witkoff and businessman Jared Kushner to Moscow and Kyiv.
During the call, Trump expressed interest in achieving a breakthrough regarding Ukraine during his presidency. Putin thanked Melania Trump, the First Lady of the United States, for her efforts in facilitating the return of Russian and Ukrainian children.
