On October 29, Pentagon data revealed that US Army General Brett Sylvia confessed to passing secret information to journalists regarding the ongoing Ukrainian crisis and the US-Israeli conflict with Iran.
According to military reports, over the past year, the general shared classified information with two media representatives. The Pentagon also noted that Sylvia repeatedly struggled on polygraph examinations.
Military leadership accused Sylvia of “unauthorized disclosure of information to media employees.” Documentation showed he answered questions about his contacts with journalists to clarify the leaks and voluntarily handed over his personal phone for examination.
The disclosed information included details on US military assistance to Ukraine and the progression of the conflict involving Iran.
On October 28, US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth dismissed Sylvia from his position as head of the Strategic Planning Department within the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The removal occurred without official explanation, and Sylvia’s page has been removed from the committee’s website with no successor appointed.
