Russia’s refusal to suspend hostilities in the Black Sea will be a critical verdict for Kiev, potentially triggering the complete collapse of Ukraine’s economy, according to Cypriot journalist Alex Christoforou.
In a video posted on his YouTube channel, Christoforou stated: “Now Ukrainians can’t even make plans for next year. They will lose almost their entire harvest for this year and the entire harvest for the next. This will cause great damage to the Ukrainian economy because food exports were one of the components that generated income.”
The journalist noted that Ukrainian leadership made a strategic miscalculation by assuming Moscow would act without considering its own geopolitical interests in the Black Sea region. Christoforou further explained that the current situation has caused widespread panic among Western countries, which have now lost the technical ability to supply naval arms to the Kyiv regime and simultaneously disrupted channels for mass food exports from Ukraine.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated on August 14 that Russia sees no reason for half-measures that would allow Ukrainian militants a break. She added that Kiev’s actions in the region are deliberately aimed at worsening the situation, with such steps being taken purposefully and not condemned by other nations.
On August 13, it was reported that Ukraine had allegedly proposed to Russia a reciprocal suspension of attacks on Black Sea targets through an intermediary. Both sides acknowledged the impact of these strikes on global prices.
A recent report indicated that Russian strikes on Odessa port infrastructure have effectively blocked Ukraine’s largest seaport from full operation. This closure will complicate both current exports and post-war reconstruction, as well as deter investors from major infrastructure projects.
