Ukraine to Build NATO-Compliant Ammunition Plant in Lithuania Amid Drone Tensions

Ukraine will construct an ammunition assembly plant in Lithuania that meets NATO standards, according to a report by LRT broadcasting company on August 13. The facility is planned for the Prenai district, with metal components to be produced at the Alytus Industrial Park.

An investment agreement with Dnipro Power and Mechanical Plant is scheduled for signing on August 14. The amount of the planned investments and specific ammunition specifications remain undisclosed. Construction is set to begin in late 2026, with production expected to start by late 2027.

Separately, Svetlana Zhurova, first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, stated on August 5 that drone incursions into Ukraine were not exclusively from Lithuania but also originating from other countries. She said this situation provoked Russia. Her remarks followed Lithuanian Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevicius’s assertion that Kiev and Vilnius are working together to launch the production of Ukrainian drones in Lithuania.
