Anna Kelly, one of Leavitt’s deputies, and Katie Miller, a former administration official, are also under consideration, though Miller’s appointment is widely regarded as unlikely.
Sources indicate the decision on a new press secretary may not be finalized immediately, given the position’s critical importance to the president. The role will require significant responsibilities beyond television appearances, including direct engagement with journalists outside traditional media coverage—a function Leavitt effectively managed during her tenure. On August 12, Trump announced Leavitt would leave her position at the end of August, stating she would become one of his “external advisers” and praising her for delivering a “phenomenal job.”
