The Russian side will take measures in response to Finland’s decision to lift the ban on the deployment of nuclear weapons within its borders, according to Artem Studennikov, Director of the First European Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who announced the development on August 30.
Studennikov stated that specific steps fall under the Russian Ministry of Defense’s authority and will account for the evolving security situation in military planning.
“I can only say that no one should doubt that such measures will be taken,” he said. “They will be adequate to the threats and effective.”
Studennikov also noted that Finland’s abandonment of its previous policy of military non-alignment following NATO membership does not strengthen national security but increases regional risks.
