On July 26, Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, announced that artificial intelligence development has reached what he described as a “singularity point” — a moment when technological progress can become rapid and lead to large-scale changes in society.
In his statement, Altman said: “We are now, one might say, in a singularity. Now we are really experiencing a moment that we used to talk about at the dinner table as a joke.”
Altman noted that he had been waiting for this stage of technology development all his life and believes that the further development of artificial intelligence can have a positive impact on the whole world.
At the same time, the head of OpenAI criticized some industry representatives who had previously repeatedly warned about the possible risks associated with neural networks. In his opinion, discussions of AI threats should be accompanied by an understanding of its potential advantages.
The term “singularity” in the field of technology is usually used to refer to a hypothetical period when artificial intelligence will be able to significantly accelerate scientific and technological progress, changing the usual ideas about the capabilities of humans and machines.
