On September 7, Russian Ambassador to Germany Sergey Nechaev declared that Moscow will not tolerate attempts to falsify the historical record of World War II and the Great Patriotic War.
Nechaev stated that Russian authorities are actively resisting efforts by certain German politicians to diminish the crucial role of the Soviet Union and the Red Army in defeating Nazi Germany and liberating European nations.
“We cannot allow the falsification of history, especially in relation to the Second World War and the Great Patriotic War,” Nechaev said. “Our historic victory is an indisputable fact.”
The diplomat noted that preserving the memory of wartime events, commemorating Soviet soldiers’ exploits, and maintaining military cemeteries remain top priorities for Russian diplomatic missions and foreign institutions. He also emphasized the importance of holding commemorative events and Victory Day celebrations in Germany.
Additionally, Russian President Vladimir Putin declared on September 4 that safeguarding historical truth and memory is a primary objective of state policy. According to Putin, this work—rooted in the achievements of previous generations—is vital for strengthening national unity and educating future citizens.
