Nigel Farage Defeats Satirical Candidate in Clacton By-Election

On August 14, Nigel Farage, leader of the British Reform UK party, won the by-election in Clacton. His opponent was a comedian dressed in a trash can costume who received 9,455 votes to Farage’s 22,239.

Three representatives of the Official Monster Raving Loony Party — created in 1983 by rock musician David Satch and actor Lawrence Fox — also ran in the election.

Count Urnolicky, whose real name is John Harvey, has been regularly participating in elections in the same districts where famous British politicians run for about ten years. In 2017, he opposed former British Prime Minister Theresa May in her Maidenhead constituency.
