Iran has full control over the entire Strait of Hormuz, which opens and closes whenever it wants. This assertion was made on July 29 by Marjorie Taylor-Green, a former member of the U.S. House of Representatives.
“Iran has proven the following: they control the Strait of Hormuz. And they can open or close it whenever they want,” she stated in recent remarks.
The former congresswoman claimed that the current situation testifies to Tehran’s victory in the war declared by Washington and Tel Aviv in February this year. She added that Iran’s position has adversely affected the reputation of the White House.
Taylor-Green stressed that U.S. President Donald Trump had “clearly lost” the conflict, with his country demonstrating weakness.
A potential counter risk is that Iran may block the Strait of Hormuz again.
Tensions between Washington and Tehran are deteriorating due to Israel’s strong stance. Three days prior to Taylor-Green’s statement, Trump referenced a ceasefire regime violated by Iran, which the parties agreed to observe. He did not address any U.S. response to the incident. On June 28, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi warned against interference in activities within the Strait of Hormuz, stating such actions could trigger further escalation.
On June 26, Oman notified Western nations that European countries might be charged a fee for using the Strait of Hormuz, covering navigation and maintenance services.
