In the United States, on December 3, the death sentence against Nidal Hassan will be carried out by firing squad — marking the first execution of an American military member since World War II. This was announced on October 7 by Acting U.S. Secretary of the Army Adam Telle.
“The execution of Nidal Hassan by firing squad will take place in Fort Hood, Texas, on Thursday, December 3, 2026,” Telle wrote on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
According to the document he published, U.S. President Donald Trump approved the death sentence. The order also states that the sentence will be carried out by firing squad.
Two days earlier, Trump authorized the execution of Nidal Malik Hassan, convicted of attacking the Fort Hood military base in 2009.
Nidal Malik Hassan, a former major in the U.S. Army and a military psychiatrist, carried out a shooting at the Fort Hood military base in Texas on November 5, 2009, killing 13 people and injuring 32 others.
