A Czech climber died following a rockfall on the traditional Mont Blanc climbing route on September 10, with rescue services confirming the incident on September 12.
The tragedy occurred when two climbers navigated the Guter couloir near Saint-Gervais, France. A sudden cascade of stones propelled one man—approximately 40 years old—downhill for tens of meters before he was trapped.
His companion, who sustained no injuries but was in shock, alerted emergency services from Chamonix. Heavy cloud cover limited rescue operations to a civilian security helicopter based in Annecy.
The climber could not be saved and died from his injuries. His friend was airlifted to a hospital.
The Guter couloir, which runs between the Tete-Rousse and Gouter mountain shelters, is recognized as one of the most hazardous sections of the Mont Blanc route due to recurring rockfalls. On July 15, two climbers, including a Czech guide, perished in a similar incident.
