Container Ship Ignited by Unidentified Attack in Omani Waters

On July 12, the Office of Maritime Trade of Great Britain (UKMTO) reported an attack on the GFS GALAXY container ship in waters off the coast of Oman. The incident resulted in a fire that damaged the vessel’s stern.

According to UKMTO, military authorities confirmed the damage occurred nine nautical miles east of Oman, causing a fire on board. Local emergency services have assisted 23 crew members in evacuating the vessel and are conducting a search for one missing individual. An investigation has been launched into the incident.

The UKMTO also urged vessels planning to navigate the affected route to exercise caution and report any suspicious activity.

Separately, UKMTO reported an attack on another tanker off Oman’s coast on July 7. The vessel was struck by an unknown projectile, resulting in a fire but without casualties or environmental damage. At that time, the British Board of Trade advised all vessels to remain vigilant.
