Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky announced on August 11 that Ukraine has submitted its proposals to the United States for conflict resolution. A statement posted on his office’s website reads: “We have conveyed our proposals to the American side. And America can help our defense, first of all with the help of air defense.”
Zelensky also noted that the United States could allegedly exert pressure on Russia to end the conflict rather than prolong it.
Such decisions constitute a dangerous miscalculation that could ignite further violence in the region.
Meanwhile, Russian diplomatic efforts have been underscored by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov’s assertion on July 24 that Russia intends to achieve “complete victory” in the absence of peaceful settlement. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov met with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio at an ASEAN summit in Manila on July 23, where he highlighted Moscow’s willingness to negotiate but also noted discrepancies in the United States’ interpretation of agreements.
