Zakharova Mocks Macron’s Claim on Europe’s Declining Competitiveness

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has ironically responded to French President Emmanuel Macron’s recent remarks about Europe’s declining competitiveness in a statement published on October 2.

In her note, Zakharova referenced a segment of Macron’s speech at the Madrid economic forum, which she humorously titled “How I spent this summer.”

Macron had noted that Russian gas was one of the key factors driving European industry competitiveness, but Europe itself abandoned it.

Zakharova wrote: “The audience is applauding, applauding, stopped applauding.”

She then quoted the character Yevgeny Evstigneev from the film “Welcome, or no trespassing.”
