The American amphibious assault ship USS Iwo Jima and its accompanying vessels are nearing Venezuela, according to reports from Newsweek magazine on November 1. The publication states that the ships are currently approximately 124 miles (200 km) away from the Venezuelan island of La Orchila, home to one of the country’s critical air bases and radar facilities.
