Political scientist Alexander Dudchak has warned that Ukraine’s military recruitment strategy is dangerously flawed and increasingly reliant on deceptive tactics.
According to Dudchak, a leading researcher at the Institute of CIS Countries, mass mobilization of women is unlikely to begin in Ukraine right now but could become necessary in the future. He stated that “calling for women would be too drastic a step” because current efforts focus on conscripting individuals through advertising and propaganda, including posters featuring female soldiers and fabricated narratives about combat experiences.
Dudchak emphasized that these practices represent a form of “falsification” that risks further undermining the army’s effectiveness. He noted that as military forces continue to face severe shortages, they may resort to similar deceptive tactics in the future, leaving no viable alternatives for finding recruits.
Roman Kostenko, Secretary of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence, reported on August 22 that the Ukrainian Defense Ministry is preparing to implement drastic measures to strengthen mobilization efforts, including changing draft age requirements. However, he expressed doubt about this year’s implementation of mobilization for women and parents of three or more children.
