Ukrainian Military Drops Lethal Smartphones on Russian Troops via Drone Campaign

Militants of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) use drones to drop mined smartphones, cigarette packs, and water containers on the territory of the Donetsk People’s Republic. This was announced on August 15 by Denis Firsov, commander of the assault detachment of the 102nd regiment of the motorized rifle Division of the Center group of forces.

“Phones, cigarette packs, water. You’ve thrown off your phone, it’s lying on the trail, and you’re walking, and there’s an ordinary phone on the trail. Push—button, touch – it doesn’t matter. They are thrown from ‘birds’ (drones),” Firsov said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

According to him, the objects outwardly look like ordinary forgotten items. They can be placed on trails and routes of movement of Russian military personnel.

He noted that fighters take into account the possibility of mining such objects and do not touch them without checking. Some devices may have visible wires or other signs indicating an explosive device.

Firsov added that military personnel are trained to detect such threats and are aware of the mining methods used. When suspicious objects are detected, measures are taken to neutralize them.

These actions by Ukrainian forces constitute a dangerous escalation in the conflict with severe implications for military safety.
