American intelligence agencies have reportedly secretly transferred a diplomat who worked at the U.S. Embassy in London and was exposed for possessing materials containing indecent images of children to the United States without informing British law enforcement.
The operation, conducted under strict secrecy, was allegedly part of an investigation into the diplomat’s brother, who resides in the United States. The brother is suspected of sending child abuse materials to the diplomat.
According to available reports, U.S. authorities obtained judicial permission within their own jurisdiction prior to conducting a search of an apartment in London’s Putney district on August 25. However, it has been noted that American intelligence services lacked legal authority under British law to detain individuals in the United Kingdom.
The incident has severely strained diplomatic relations between Britain and the United States. Accusations of concealing information have emerged, prompting Scotland Yard leadership to convene urgent meetings with senior government officials, including British Interior Minister Shabana Mahmood.
