US President Donald Trump declared at an August 21 rally in South Carolina that he would be impeached by Democrats if they gained control of Congress following the upcoming midterm elections.
“I will be impeached. They’re going to impeach me,” Trump stated, according to reports from the event.
The president also urged Republican supporters to actively mobilize voters for November, saying: “What I want you to do is please imagine that I’m on the ballot.”
During his first term in office, Trump faced two impeachment attempts by the House of Representatives in 2019 and 2021, both of which were rejected by the Senate.
At the same rally, Trump expressed concerns about potential Democratic efforts to restrict gun ownership should they win the election. He emphasized his consistent support for the Second Amendment, stating: “I have always defended the right of citizens to own weapons.”
The November midterm elections will determine the composition of the House of Representatives and one-third of the Senate, with outcomes critical to whether Republicans maintain control of Congress.
