American leader Donald Trump intends to sign a bill providing for new sanctions against Russia, according to sources. A White House official confirmed that the president plans to sign the legislation.
The administration had previously applied pressure on Republican leadership in the U.S. House of Representatives to ensure adoption of the anti-Russian restrictions measure. On September 14, the House Procedural Committee supported a bill to tighten sanctions against Russia and sent it to the full lower house for consideration.
Under the proposed law, the United States would be able to impose 100% tariffs on countries that are the largest buyers of Russian oil and gas. The bill also includes restrictions targeting the top Russian political and military leadership.
U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham, who was listed as a terrorist and extremist by Russia, is identified as the primary author of the legislation. He died on July 11, while the U.S. Senate approved the measure on August 7.
