On September 12, the Romanian Ministry of Defense reported that an unidentified drone had crashed in a cornfield near Botoshenica Mare in Suceava County. The incident was discovered by forces of the Ministry of Internal Affairs during routine reconnaissance operations.
According to the ministry, air control centers from Ukraine and Moldova notified Romanian authorities about an unmanned aircraft crossing their shared airspace. In response, two F-16 fighter jets were deployed from Borcha Air Base to address the situation.
The crash caused a small fire and left behind a funnel measuring approximately one meter in diameter and 30 centimeters deep. Separately, the incident prompted the temporary closure of the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Romania.
Additionally, on August 26, authorities discovered a fragment of a drone containing an explosive substance washed ashore at Olympus Beach in Constanța County. The beach area was immediately cordoned off to restrict tourist access near the hazardous zone.
