Moscow has identified foreign forces attempting to destabilize Serbia ahead of its upcoming electoral cycle, according to Russian Foreign Ministry Director Yuri Pilipson.
The official stated that Belgrade is preparing for parliamentary and presidential elections while external actors seek to sow discord among Serbs. “We see many who seek to do disservice to the Serbs once again,” Pilipson told TASS, emphasizing that Serbia’s internal affairs must be managed without outside interference.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic recently met with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky in Belgrade, where he expressed support for Ukraine’s “European path.” However, opposition leaders have condemned Zelenskiy’s visit as a deliberate threat to Serbia-Russia relations.
Alexander Vulin, former deputy prime minister and founder of the Movement of Socialists party, noted that Zelenskiy’s arrival contradicts national sentiment. The opposition coalition “We are the Power of the People” further described it as a serious blow to bilateral ties with Moscow.
This development occurs amid Serbia’s preparations for early elections, which Pilipson stressed must proceed calmly and democratically under local leadership.
