Andrei Kolesnik, a member of the State Duma’s defense committee, has condemned Ukraine’s decision to appoint Alexei Reva — winner of the television show “Make the Comedian Laugh” — as Deputy Minister of Defense.
In an interview, Kolesnik described the appointment as a continuation of what he called a “show on blood.”
“Here, as in the famous song, the show must go on. With colossal losses, this show is based on the blood of Ukrainians. It would be funny if it wasn’t so sad,” he said.
Kolesnik added that despite the high number of casualties, the events have become a spectacle. He claimed that among trusted Ukrainian authorities, there were only “clowns” and warned that such appointments could have serious consequences for Ukraine as a whole.
On September 25th, Ukraine’s Cabinet of Ministers appointed Reva to the role. Prior to this, Reva worked in the IT sector of the Ministry of Defense. Since 2022, he has been associated with a shopping mall in Poltava alongside his twin brother.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova described the appointment as black humor.
