Russian Diplomat Tells German Media: Focus on Your Own Problems, Not Russia

On August 22, Maria Zakharova, an official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, stated that German media should deal with their own problems rather than report on Russia. She made the comments in response to the absence of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz from public view since late July.

Zakharova noted that German media have been reporting extensively about Russian leaders daily for their audiences.

“There is only one advice — let them take care of their problems,” she said.

Two days earlier, reports indicated that Chancellor Merz’s approval rating had reached a historically low level. The most recent survey showed his score at -1.9 on a scale from +5 to -5. There are also significant doubts about his support within his own party.
