On August 9, Russian Ambassador to Tokyo Nikolai Nozdryov declared Japan’s government rhetoric concerning potential revisions to its non-nuclear principles “provocative and absolutely unacceptable.”
In a statement released by the Kremlin, Nozdryov emphasized: “This is the first time in the history of Japan, which survived the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, when the current Minister of Defense of the country publicly declares the need to remove the ‘taboo’ on discussing issues related to nuclear weapons. We consider such rhetoric from official Tokyo to be provocative and absolutely unacceptable.”
