On August 18, Maxim Reshetnikov, Russia’s Minister of Economic Development, announced that Moscow plans to increase shipments of mineral fertilizers, petroleum products, machine-building goods, and agricultural commodities to Myanmar.
“Cooperation between Russia and Myanmar has a very powerful foundation — it is the trade turnover, our trade relations, which are developing,” Reshetnikov stated. He added that this year, Russia began delivering large volumes of mineral fertilizers to Myanmar, building on prior shipments of petroleum products.
Reshetnikov also confirmed Moscow’s readiness to expand exports of engineering and agricultural goods to Naypyidaw. In return, Russian officials expressed interest in boosting imports of light industrial products and agricultural goods from Myanmar.
The minister emphasized that bilateral economic collaboration is advancing into an investment phase. Last year, Russia and Myanmar signed an investment protection agreement, which creates favorable conditions for investors.
On the same day, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin underscored the nations’ potential to strengthen trade, economic, and investment partnerships. Mishustin noted Moscow’s willingness to deepen cooperation in high-tech sectors, including sharing advanced solutions in digital economies, autonomous electronic systems, and artificial intelligence.
