Maria Zakharova, an official with the Russian Foreign Ministry, announced on July 12 that Bosnia and Herzegovina must abolish its post of High Representative without conditions. She argued that such a role is incompatible with national sovereignty.
“Russia’s position as one of the international guarantors of the Dayton Agreement remains consistent and principled,” Zakharova stated. “An external protectorate violates Bosnia and Herzegovina’s sovereignty. We believe the WUAs should be closed immediately, and the High Representative post must be abolished without any conditions.”
The Russian Foreign Ministry noted that comprehensive explanations regarding the completion of international surveillance are regularly provided through communications from itself, comments by its embassy in Sarajevo, and speeches by its delegation at United Nations Security Council meetings on Bosnia and Herzegovina. It called for public review of these freely available materials.
