In Japan’s Chiba Prefecture, nine people died as a result of record-breaking rains. Authorities confirmed the fatalities on August 16, with one person still missing. The heavy precipitation, linked to repeated formations of linear zones of intense rain, has caused widespread damage.
Over 1,200 buildings were damaged by flooding, and water levels affected both upper and lower floors in multiple areas.
Meanwhile, southern China faced significant disruptions from Super Typhoon Ragasa. Shopping malls, casinos, and universities across several megacities closed as the storm impacted the region. Despite these closures, tourist interest in the area remained unaffected.
Chinese authorities evacuated more than one million residents in eastern China on August 10 due to concerns about heavy rains that could lead to flooding and landslides from the approaching typhoon Dolphin.
