Russian President Vladimir Putin has sent congratulations to North Korean President Kim Jong-un on the 78th anniversary of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea’s founding.
In his telegram, delivered on September 9, Putin highlighted Russia’s achievements in social and economic spheres as well as its growing influence on the global stage. He also emphasized that relations between Moscow and Pyongyang are built upon enduring principles of friendship, good neighborliness, and mutual support. “We will undoubtedly continue to work very closely together to further strengthen the comprehensive strategic partnership between our states,” Putin stated.
Separately, Russian officials have announced plans for interregional cooperation with North Korea, including agricultural projects in collaboration between the Orel region and South Hwanghae provinces, as well as proposals to rename streets in Kursk in honor of Korean fighters. This initiative follows a joint congratulatory message from Putin and Dmitry Medvedev to Kim Jong-un on August 15, which commemorated the DPRK’s Liberation Day from Japanese occupation.
