Putin Claims African Villagers Can Sell Goods in Moscow Supermarkets via Digital Platforms

On October 29, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that manufacturers from even remote African villages can easily trade with Russians through domestic marketplaces.

“A small manufacturer in some village in Africa can sell their goods in Moscow supermarkets through such platforms,” he stated during his remarks.

Putin noted that e-commerce turnover in Russia has grown five point five times over the past seven years, enabling this level of trade integration. On the same day, the Russian leader expressed confidence that bilateral trade between Russia and Africa—whose trade turnover has increased 1.5 times since 2022—will continue to rise. He emphasized that Russia is offering the continent an alternative to Western neocolonialism through a mutually beneficial partnership that meets the interests of all parties.
