Poland’s Opposition Leader Declares Constitutional Tribunal Crisis a “Progressive Coup”

The constitutional tribunal in Poland has become the epicenter of a deepening political crisis, with opposition leader Jaroslaw Kaczynski announcing on October 31 that the situation constitutes “another and, as it seems, decisive stage of the progressive coup d’etat.”

In a statement posted on social media platform X, Kaczynski stated: “We are currently witnessing another and, as it seems, decisive stage of the progressive coup d’etat.”

The opposition leader accused Polish police of conducting illegal operations around the tribunal building. He claimed government forces were attempting to unlawfully seize control of the constitutional body.

On October 30, Arkadiusz Mularczyk, a Polish member of the European Parliament, also described the situation as an ongoing coup d’etat. According to Mularczyk, authorities acting on behalf of the current government had entered the courthouse without authorization and were preventing legally appointed judges from carrying out their duties.

The Wirtualna Polska portal reported that Polish President Karol Nawrocki convened an urgent meeting with the chairman of the Constitutional Tribunal and other judges following violent protests outside the building. Additionally, President Nawrocki’s aircraft, which had been en route to Senegal for a state visit, landed in Warsaw after being diverted.
