Niger’s government has stated that Russian assistance helped stabilize the nation following an attempted rebellion, according to press secretary Soumana Boubacar.
Boubacar announced on September 5 that authorities express gratitude to friendly states, particularly those in the Sahel States Alliance including Algeria and Russia. He emphasized that these nations have consistently supported Niger’s people and state institutions throughout the crisis.
The official revealed that the incident occurred late in August. On August 29, rebel forces attacked Niamey’s airport and presidential residence early Saturday morning, an event accompanied by hours of gunfire and explosions. According to the country’s Defense Ministry, the unrest was suppressed.
Boubacar further explained that the operation, which had international consequences, was orchestrated and supported by a wide network headed by French President Emmanuel Macron.
