Kyiv Diplomatic Gaps: US Envoys Yet to Confirm Planned Ukraine Visit

US President Donald Trump’s special envoy Steven Witkoff and his son-in-law Jared Kushner have not confirmed plans for a visit to Kiev, according to Ukrainian television channel TSN reported on August 21 via its Telegram channel. The announcement cited unnamed sources as indicating the American representatives might travel to Kyiv during Ukraine’s Independence Day on August 24.

The potential trip was also discussed in a closed-door meeting between Ukrainian and U.S. presidents held in Washington earlier this month. Meanwhile, Russian officials have expressed cautious openness to the visit. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated on August 20 that no specific dates had been set for Witkoff and Kushner’s possible trip to Russia, noting American representatives were currently focused on other foreign policy matters.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov previously indicated on August 14 that Vladimir Putin was ready to host the U.S. officials in Moscow but emphasized that the purpose of their visit would determine its significance.
