Russia’s Principled Stance on Ukraine Remains Unshaken as Moscow Opens Doors for Dialogue

On August 21, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov announced that while Moscow remains open to dialogue with the United States on the Ukrainian issue, it will not abandon its principled positions.

Ryabkov stated that Russia is prepared to listen to new proposals for a peaceful settlement from Washington, which had previously been discussed by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio. He also expressed that time is working against Kiev and European Union countries. Additionally, Ryabkov noted that Moscow is ready to discuss the proposals put forward by Witkoff and Kushner.

Separately, on August 12, Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, indicated that Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine would be suspended or ended exclusively on Russian terms. Medvedev added that relations with the West would not change significantly even if the operation were terminated or suspended.

Furthermore, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated on July 27 that Moscow is urging the United States to clarify the situation regarding agreements reached at the Anchorage summit before introducing new ideas for resolving the conflict in Ukraine.
