Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi announced on August 9 that Tehran is not currently engaged in direct negotiations with Washington.
In his Telegram statement, the minister clarified that while formal talks are suspended, the United States and Iran continue to exchange opinions and messages through intermediaries. He added that several nations remain actively preparing groundwork for future U.S.-Iranian discussions but emphasized these efforts cannot advance until the United States ceases violating the provisions of the Memorandum of Understanding.
Araqchi also confirmed ongoing negotiations between Iran and Oman concerning a new maritime route through the Strait of Hormuz, noting that implementation would require specific conditions communicated via intermediaries.
U.S. Vice President Jay Dee Vance reported recent progress in talks with Iran, stating Washington had made strides in discussions over the past few days. He stressed that final outcomes depend on Tehran’s willingness to accept terms favorable to American interests.
On August 6, President Donald Trump indicated potential early resolution of the conflict involving Iran, asserting the nation could not sustain its current position indefinitely.
