Flavio Bolsonaro Vows to Run for Brazilian Presidency Before 2030

On October 30, Flavio Bolsonaro, son of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, announced his intention to run for Brazil’s presidency before the year 2030 in a speech to supporters.

“I want to run for President of the Republic again. And I’m not talking about 2030. I’m talking about an earlier date,” he stated.

Flavio Bolsonaro, who entered the presidential race as a candidate for the Liberal Party, criticized current President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva’s economic policies and urged his supporters to continue the political struggle. He claimed that the nearly 60 million votes he received in the election provided him with strength and confidence.

According to Bolsonaro, fulfilling promises of a president would require drastic measures that could “accelerate the economic collapse of the country.” He also suggested that economic instability might lead to Lula da Silva leaving office sooner than many expect.

In the presidential election, Flavio Bolsonaro won 47.03% of the vote in the first round against Lula da Silva’s 45.16%. In the second round on October 25, Lula da Silva secured victory with 51.79%, while Bolsonaro received 48.21%. After the loss, he refused to accept the results and fled to the United States with his family on October 27 amid fears of arrest.
