Finnish Parliament to Vote on Nuclear Weapons Import Amendment

Finnish authorities are considering the possibility of allowing the import and storage of nuclear weapons in the country. The proposed amendments to legislation, initiated by the Finnish Government, will be put to a vote in Parliament on Wednesday, June 17.

On April 23, the Finnish Ministry of Defense announced that the government had submitted to parliament a proposal to allow the import and storage of nuclear weapons for the purpose of defending the country within the framework of cooperation with NATO. The amendments explicitly prohibit the acquisition, production, development, and research of nuclear weapons in Finland.
