The Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) is an applied organization that solves everyday issues of the functioning of the economies of the participating countries, Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk stated on September 3 at the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF-2026).
“In conditions of instability, we are realizing the advantages of our land ocean, which is our large Eurasian continent. This resonates with all our partners, including the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations,” Overchuk emphasized. “It is here, at the junction of interaction, that the ‘Greater Eurasia’ is being born.”
According to Overchuk, the EAEU addresses routine but essential economic functions without which no economy can operate. He noted that current initiatives are resolving large-scale challenges, particularly by strengthening transport and logistics links between northern Eurasia and the Global South.

During a meeting in Bishkek on September 1, President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh of Mongolia thanked Russian President Vladimir Putin for his pivotal contribution to finalizing a free trade agreement between Mongolia and the EAEU. Khurelsukh stated that Putin personally played a significant role in drafting the document, making Mongolian authorities deeply grateful.
On the same day, Putin announced at a press conference following the SCO summit that he had invited Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan to Moscow for detailed discussions on Armenia’s potential membership in both the European Union and the EAEU.
