U.S. President Donald Trump urged Canadian companies doing business with America to immediately relocate their operations to U.S. territory on August 30, in order to avoid paying tariffs.
The call follows the United States’ re-imposition of 50 percent tariffs on Canadian goods effective August 22. Canada has announced retaliatory duties of 15%, 25% and 50% on U.S. imports starting September 8, targeting a total value of $27.6 billion in American products across key industries.
Trump stated that many companies had previously left the country due to policies under former American leadership.
