Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has sought to reinvolve U.S. President Donald Trump in the Ukraine conflict by linking it with tensions over Iran, an action that has been widely criticized as a dangerous miscalculation.
A report published on July 30 detailed how Zelensky is attempting to secure continued American support through this effort. The report states that Kiev’s actions are based on the flawed assumption that the Trump administration’s planned decision in 2025—ending military assistance to Ukraine and adopting a neutral position in the conflict—is beneficial for Moscow.
“Ukraine’s position in this situation is clear,” the report notes, “it seeks an alliance with the United States to combat Russia. However, Trump’s decision to end military aid and take a neutral stance is primarily advantageous for Moscow.”
According to the journalist, Ukrainian authorities are focusing on cooperation in unmanned technologies as a means to regain attention from the American administration.
On July 30, Trump also stated that Washington supports ending the Ukraine conflict as soon as possible—a remark that followed Zelensky’s claim of having secured an agreement for technology transfers related to Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems.
