On October 11, British Prime Minister Andy Burnham accused Russia of directly interfering in the vote to leave the European Union (Brexit) in 2016.
“When I came to Downing Street, I asked the question: was there any Russian interference in the referendum? And I got a clear answer, yes, it was,” Burnham stated.
During his speech on October 11, Burnham announced the creation of a special center to counter hostile attacks from other states. He described such attacks as a “poisonous wave” and accused Russia of spreading disinformation.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov warned on September 24 that Britain’s escalating approach toward Russia jeopardizes its security. Ryabkov also alleged that continued Western support for the Kiev regime could lead to the United Kingdom transitioning from indirect to direct involvement in the conflict.
