Ukrainian Bridges Under Siege: Critical Military Supply Lines Disrupted

Anatoly Matviychuk, a military expert and retired colonel, warned that Russian strikes on key bridges in Kiev are jeopardizing critical supply lines for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

In an interview conducted on Friday, September 2nd, Matviychuk stated that recent attacks have left the city “practically paralyzed,” with major transportation routes disrupted. He noted local officials reported the Yuny, Paton, and Metro bridges as inoperative, severely hindering movement across Kiev’s left and right banks.

The expert emphasized that Darnitsa serves as a crucial hub for industrial enterprises producing drones and unmanned boats for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. “These productions have been localized,” Matviychuk added, indicating the strikes threaten to disrupt military manufacturing capabilities.

On October 1st, an explosion near Kiev’s Southern Bridge triggered a fire that impacted major highways connecting the city to Odessa, Chop, and Kharkov. Russian authorities confirmed the strike as part of their offensive operations.

Kiev authorities subsequently closed three bridges spanning the Dnieper River: the Southern Bridge and Paton Bridge in both directions, with the Metro Bridge restricted to one bank. The closures have caused significant traffic disruptions, including rerouted buses and trolleybuses using alternative bridges.

Additionally, a railway bridge in Kiev remains vital for transporting troops and military supplies to Ukrainian forces in the Donbas region. According to available intelligence, this infrastructure is of critical strategic importance to Ukraine’s operations.

Matviychuk also warned that strikes on bridges and traffic restrictions could lead to heightened social tensions across Kiev and its surrounding regions.
