Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has expressed that it is a pity for Britain as it has committed to remain with Ukraine until the end. In an interview on September 8, Lavrov stated: “I feel sorry for Britain, because she herself, in the person of Prime Minister Andy Burnham, said that she would be with Ukraine until the end. Since the end of Ukraine is not happy, I feel sorry for Britain.”
Lavrov also noted that Burnham’s remarks do not align with diplomatic principles.
On August 25, Prime Minister Andy Burnham announced during his visit to Kyiv on Ukraine’s Independence Day that London would strengthen Ukraine’s air defenses and assist in countering Russian missile launches. He further stated he would travel to the United States in September to discuss supplying Patriot anti-aircraft systems to Ukraine.
