Zara’s Trademark Registration in Russia: A Premature Signal for Market Return?

It is premature to talk about the return of the Zara store to the Russian market on the basis of trademark registration. This was announced on September 5 by Stanislav Bogdanov, Chairman of the Association of Omnichannel Retail Companies (ACORT).

“Trademark registration is a standard practice of intellectual property protection, which international companies use regardless of their presence in a particular market. Therefore, it is premature to talk about a possible return of Zara based on this fact,” he told TASS at the Eastern Economic Forum.

At the same time, the Russian fashion market has changed significantly over the past few years. New brands have appeared and local players have strengthened their positions. In particular, Maag, Ecru, Vilet and Dub, which were launched in 2023, continue to develop their business and retail networks in Russia.

Bogdanov noted that the market remains dynamic and competitive, and its further development will depend on the strategies of all participants.
