The Pentagon has announced a contract with Raytheon, a defense contractor based in El Segundo, California, for the production and maintenance of new radar systems for the U.S. Air Force’s B-52 strategic bombers.
The agreement, valued at up to $603 million, will replace outdated radar equipment on the bombers with next-generation AN/APQ-188 radars. According to the announcement made on August 25, all work under the contract is scheduled to be completed by August 20, 2031.
The contract includes an indefinite supply volume and expiration date, indicating long-term commitments for the radar systems. Notably, the Pentagon concluded the deal without a competitive bidding process.
