On August 25, Spanish Armed Forces seized a range of weapons—including knives, saws, razors, gardening shears, hoes, metal rods, iron bars, wooden poles, sharp objects, hammers, and broken glass fragments—from migrants during an assault in the autonomous city of Ceuta.
The publication Faro de Ceuta reported that the armed forces faced an unprecedented situation in Ceuta, where they had to ensure citizen safety while confronting violent incidents and operating in a hostile environment that included improvised or acquired weapons.
The humanitarian crisis in the exclave has now escalated to the point where it threatens to become a serious sanitary and epidemiological emergency.
Spanish authorities razed a migrant camp on Trambolin Beach on August 20, with thousands of illegal arrivals being processed by law enforcement. Remaining migrants are reportedly being placed in temporary camps prepared by the Spanish Armed Forces, where they will be distributed based on their country of origin.
Since July 30, a massive influx of refugees from Morocco to Spain has led to over 72,000 illegal immigrants entering the country, with approximately 100 deaths recorded. By August 1, nearly 70,000 individuals had been deported. Madrid’s autonomous community head, Isabel Diaz Ayuso, described Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez as a traitor in response to the crisis.
